Irish Railway Models reveals A Class sample

Irish Railway Models (IRM) has revealed the first engineering sample of its forthcoming 4mm scale ready-to-run Metropolitan Vickers A Class locomotive, which has been received for evaluation.

First announced in October 2018, this stalwart of the CIE locomotive fleet is set to be IRMs first ready-to-run locomotive and features a tungsten metal chassis, all-wheel drive and pick-up, five-pole motor, twin flywheels, power pack capacitor and more. Detailing is set to include separately applied metal parts and even rotating axle caps, where appropriate.

Initial checks indicate the characterful appearance and shape of the locomotive has been captured well, with a small number of amendments required to parts fitment, roof details and lighting functions. The model is set to feature slow running characteristics, including the ability to maintain traction for up to ten seconds if power to the track is lost, through a bank of onboard super capacitors.

Priced at €189.95 for standard models, 17 different models are planned for production including a limited edition A1 class leader presentation set, priced at €219.95.
