Hornby Hobbies is opening the doors to its former Margate factory and offering the first public access to the One:One Collection of full-size locomotives and rolling stock on August 17/18 2019. Hornby Magazine reveals all.
Hornby’s former Margate factory buildings are set to come alive again for a special weekend event this August. The two-day show celebrates the newly-refurbished Hornby Visitor Centre in Margate and includes a model railway exhibition in the former factory buildings as well as the first public opening of the One:One Collection of full-size locomotives and rolling stock.
The One:One Collection is made up of stored locomotives including Gresley ‘A4’ 4464 Bittern, Stanier ‘Black Five’ 4-6-0 45379, Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) including the only surviving Southern Region 4-SUB from the Coventry Railway Museum plus a crane and more. These items have been stored in a specially renovated section of the former Hornby factory site in Margate following the acquisition by Locomotive Storage Ltd in 2017.
Joining the One:One Collection is a group of model railway exhibits, trade stands and more which will be located in the former factory buildings of the Margate site. Highlights include the second public appearance of Hornby Magazine’s new West Coast Main Line layout West Coast Cement (HM Yearbook No. 11) featuring digital control and sound fitted locomotives together with the Steampunk layout and more. There will also be stands from the Spa Valley Railway, Bluebell Railway, Mid Hants Railway, Folkestone Model Railway Society, Oxford Diecast, Isle of Thanet Railway Society and Willowbrook Imaging.
Other highlights of the weekend event include a summer barbeque and hog roast, the chance to meet the Hornby Magazine editorial team plus stars of the BBC TV Series James May’s Big Trouble in Model Britain, meet the Hornby design team and more. Advance tickets for an Airfix ‘Make ‘N’ Paint’ session, and Hornby Visitor Centre Commemorative Pack can be pre-ordered for the weekend.
Tickets are available to purchase in advance and on the door with prices set at £10 for adults, £6 for children and concessions (under 5s enter for free) and £26 for a family ticket (two adults and up to four children). The is open from 10am-4pm each day (9.30 entry for advance tickets).
