Gaugemaster is teaming up with Dapol to develop an exclusive ‘O’ gauge model of British Rail’s (BR) Class 09 diesel shunter.
Introduced from the late 1950s/early 1960s, BR’s Class 09 shunters differed from the outwardly similar Class 08 and proved to be versatile machines thanks in part to their higher 27.5mph top speed, which was particularly useful on BR’s Southern Region where they enjoyed a long association. Some class members also received high-level air pipes for compatibility with the Region’s Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) fleet.
Bearing the hallmarks of Dapol’s popular ‘O’ gauge Class 08, the new models will feature a tungsten chassis, all-wheel drive and pick-ups, five-pole skew wound motor, 21-pin Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder socket, lighting, sprung buffers and separately applied details.
Four Class 09s and a departmental Class 08 shunter are planned as part of the Gaugemaster Collection including D4106 (as-preserved) in BR green livery (Cat No. GM7210201), 09020 in BR blue (GM7210202), 09016 in weathered BR blue (GM7210203), 09012 Dick Hardy in BR departmental grey (GM7210204) and 97800 Ivor in Network SouthEast colours (GM7210301).
Prices are set at £229.95 for pristine models and £239.95 for the weathered example. A delivery date has yet to be confirmed.
