The Derby/Sulzer Class 45s are the subject of a brand new model development project for Heljan which will include the first authentic model of the Class 45/1 sub class.
Announced to mark the 60thanniversary of the ‘Peaks’, release is planned for 2020 and will cover vacuum braked and steam heat locomotives in split-centre head code form, as well as dual brake and steam Class 45/0s with rebuilt sealed beam nose, ends together with the Electric Train Heat equipped Class 45/1s with the addition of a high-intensity headlight.
Development for the new Heljan Class 45s will follow on from the research and development carried out for its ‘O’ gauge model of the 1-Co-Co-1s and tooling is already in progress. The specification calls for a 21-pin DCC decoder socket, NEM coupling pockets, provision for digital sound, LED lighting plus switchable cab and tail lights.
Prices are set at £169 for pristine locomotives and £179 for weathered examples and with Heljan planning eight standard models across the tooling for the first round of releases covering BR green and BR blue liveries. It has also confirmed that Rails of Sheffield and Kernow Model Rail Centre have commissioned limited editions on the new model. Rails are to have D65 Grenadier Guardsman in 1960s BR green with small yellow warning panels and 45060 Sherwood Forester in 1980s BR blue with a sealed beam nose end produced while Kernow has selected 45110 Medusa in weathered BR blue with a high-intensity headlight and unofficial Tinsley markings.
