Rails develops SECR box van

Rails of Sheffield is working in partnership with Dapol to produce a ‘OO’ gauge ready-to-run model of the South Eastern and Chatham Railway diagram 1424 box van as the first of a planned range of exclusive products.

The SECR diagram 1424 vans were introduced in 1904 and 110 were built over the following four years. Several survived through Southern Railway ownership into nationalisation with examples still known to be in traffic as late as 1956.

Rails model of the SECR van will be released in Southern Railway brown with BR lettering with two running numbers, BR grey with two running numbers and 1936 era Southern Railway brown. Other highlights include Alan Gibson finescale twin spoke wheels and small tension lock couplings in NEM pockets. The first batch is due to become available in June 2019.

The new model will be researched, designed and produced in the UK in limited quantities with a retail price of £27.99 per wagon. Rails offering an introductory discount of 5% when two of the new wagons are purchased as the same time.
