Dapol reveals GWR ‘Mogul’ and ‘Prairie’ for 2019

The GWR ‘Mogul’ 2-6-0 and ‘Large Prairie’ 2-6-2T are to be reborn in ‘OO’ gauge through brand new ready-to-run model by Dapol. The two classes expected to be released in the first quarter of 2019.

The ‘Mogul’ will cater for the later Churchward build locomotives from 5390-7321 together with the final eight, 6362-6369, built under Collett in 1925 and will include options for outside and inside steam pipes and detail differences in buffer shank style, vacuum pipes, safety valve covers, smokebox doors and more.

The ‘Large Prairie’ will focus on the ‘5101’ class built between 1929-1939 and will also cover the ‘61XX’ series which had higher pressure boilers for working London suburban services. Variations within the tools include safety valve covers, bunker lamp bracket shield, smokebox top lamp bracket, smokebox door style and more.

Dapol has stated that it is already at an advanced stage of CAD development and the specification includes a Next18 decoder socket offering tool-free decoder installation, ‘no-solder’ speaker connection, compensated centre driving axle, sound fitted option, firebox glow, a new design of electrical close coupling between the locomotive and tender and more.

Liveries selected will cover Great Western and British Railways era locomotives with each one being available DCC ready, DCC fitted and DCC sound fitted with Dapol’s ‘RealDrive’ sound files. Prices start from £159.95 for the ‘Mogul’, rising to £309.95 for a sound fitted version, while the ‘Prairie’ starts at £135.95 DCC ready up to £285.95 sound fitted.
