Rapido Trains has announced its movement into 1:76 scale (4mm:1ft) bus models with a scanning event for a Birmingham City Transport (GCT) Guy Arab IV double decker at the Transport Museum in Wythall on July 16.
The Guy Arab IV ‘new look’ buses were introduced in 1950 with BCT taking 200 into service between 1952 and 1954. They had seating for 55 and a Gardner 6LW engine and featured an enclosed radiator grille as part of the ‘new look’ design.
Rapido’s new model will be based on a 3D scan on the preserved vehicle and the specification calls for plastic and metal construction, full interior detail, separate wire handrails on the rear platform, steerable front wheels with rubber tyres, flush glazing, accurate paint finish and route/destination options. A deluxe versions is set to feature working headlamps, destination blinds and interior lighting which will require a separate 12V 500mA DC power supply for operation.
Two versions are planned initially covering BCT blue and cream with a khaki roof and West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive (WMPTE) blue and grey with khaki roof.
Reservations are open through Rapido direct and its stockists with standard versions priced at £39.95 and deluxe models at £49.95. Release is anticipated in summer/autumn 2018.
