HM115: ‘Prairie’ sound comparison

In the Staff Projects section of HM115, January 2017 Hornby Magazine, Editor Mike Wild explains how he has brought upgrades to the sound quality of earlier installations with a change of speaker. Here the results are demonstrated with a pair of GWR ‘Prairie’ tanks – one in original form with an ESU 23mm round speaker and one in modified form using a Zimo 15mm x 10mm x 9mm ‘Sugar Cube’ speaker. The decoder in both is a LokSound V4.0 micro decoder hardwired to the chassis. Both speakers are in the same location and the volume has been set to match on each locomotive. The results speak for themselves.
