Heljan plans DMUs and ‘Mogul’ for ‘O’!

Four Diesel Multiple Units and a second GWR steam locomotive have been announced by Heljan for ‘O’ gauge with the Class 117, 120, 121 and 128 DMUs being planned together with a GWR ‘43XX’ 2-6-0.

The announcement was made at the Gauge O Guild exhibition in Telford on September 3/4 where the manufacturer revealed that the Class 128 is proposed for release in the fourth quarter of 2017 at a price of £579.

It will be available in original condition with split headcode boxes as W55991 in BR green with speed whiskers (Cat No. 8910), W55992 in BR green with yellow gangway doors and white cab roofs (8911), M55994 in BR blue (8912) and W55991 in BR blue (8913). In addition the 128 will also be produced in its later format, without gangways, as M55995 in BR blue (8950) and 55993 in Royal Mail red (8951).

The Class 121, 117 and 120 DMUs are all at an early stage of development with pricing and delivery dates yet to be announced. The high-density ‘117’ is to be produced as a three-car unit while the Swindon ‘120’ is planned as two-car and three-car units.

The manufacturer has also begun CAD drawing work for a GWR ‘43XX’ 2-6-0 – its second GWR ‘O’ gauge steam locomotive which will complement the recently announced (HM102) GWR ‘Large Prarie’.

Heljan has also updated the timescale for its previously announced ‘O’ locomotives with one per quarter expected for release throughout 2017. Due in the fourth quarter of 2016 is the GWR ‘Large Prairie’, the Class 37 with centre headcodes is due in the first quarter of 2017, the Class 45 in the second quarter, the Class 05 in the third quarter and finally the ‘128’ in the fourth quarter of 2017.
